5 Steps to Switch Your Checking to CFCU

Switching your checking account seems like a lot of work, so we've broken it down to these five easy steps.

1. Open your new Citizens FCU checking account.

2. Update your direct deposits.
Simply provide your employer or paying agency with your new Citizens FCU account number and our routing number (311390140). To sign up for direct deposit of your Social Security or other federal benefits payments, go to godirect.gov

3. Update any automatic payment information.
If you have any recurring bills paid automatically through your old checking account or have a debit card, be sure to update with your new Financial Insititution information. To avoid overdraft fees, make sure your old checking account has enough funds to make any payments until the transfer is completed.

4. Phase out your old checking account.
Stop using your old debit card and checks (you should receive your new Citizens FCU Mastercard Debit Card within 10 days, or instantly in branch). Continue to monitor your old account for any unexpected withdrawals, such as automatic payments you may have missed.

5. Close your old checking account.
Once you are confident there are no automatic withdrawals coming from your old account, you should close it. Most banks will give you the option of closing your account in a branch or online. Once the old account is closed, be sure to destroy the debit card and any checks associated with the account.
